Age has no limits when it comes to family

This week in Dallas, a 92 year old lady has officially adopted her younger cousin after spending sixty years caring for her like a daughter.

Muriel Clayton, 92, and Mary Smith, 76 grew up together as typical fun-loving cousins; however they held a special bond. When Mary was 11 her father passed away and, with her mother living in a mental health home, Mary had to turn to her older cousin. Muriel took Mary in, alongside her four other daughters, and cared for her as if she were her own.

After six decades, Muriel felt it was the perfect time to formalise their relationship, and asked Mary the day before Mother’s Day for her permission to adopt her as her own.

The unique adoption ceremony saw Mary presented with beautiful white orchids, a sign of her graceful age compared to the traditional, teddy bear gift that is given to young children.

This beautiful story shows a motherly bond between two women with happy memories ahead as mother and daughter.
