Meet the model challenging the standards of beauty at New York Fashion Week
The world of fashion can be a competitive and often difficult industry when it comes to challenging convention. But 28 year old model Lauren Wasser is changing perceptions of beauty after she has made her runway debut with a prosthetic leg.
Wasser, who started her modelling career when she was just two years old, lost her leg to toxic shock syndrome in 2012. “I was literally laying there, thinking my life was over. That I would never be accepted again, I could never model again.” Recalled Wasser.
Despite her initial reaction, Wasser found anything is possible with a can-do attitude and a ton of positivity, and has continued her career, working with the likes of Nike and Interview magazine since her incredible recovery.
“I’m more beautiful than I’ve ever been because I’ve experienced so many things, and I can relate to so many different people,” said Wasser, “and you know, it’s just made me a better person.”
