Michael Phelps prepares to embrace his last Olympics
Let’s take a minute to focus on American swimming star Michael Phelps, as he gets ready for his fifth and final Olympic Games. The “Phenomenon” was first encouraged to start competitive swimming at the age of seven, in order to counteract his Attention Deficit disorder. Phelps became the youngest American swimmer at his first Olympics, Sydney 2000.
Also known as “The Fish”, Phelps became a global icon in Beijing 2008 by winning eight gold medals in just one Olympics. Most athletes haven’t done that in their entire Olympic Career! In light of his impending retirement, his fellow team members have nominated Phelps to be team USA’s flag bearer for Rio 2016, making sure that he goes out in style.
Supporting Phelps in Team USA will be both of the Williams sisters (Serena and Venus), Kevin Durant, and newcomer Simone Biles, who is said to be the most talented gymnast in the history of the sport! Good luck everyone!
