Police escort elderly lady to deliver handmade gifts
Many of us have a bucket list filled with lots of wild activities we’d like to do before we die, but 102-year-old Edie Simms had something rather unusual on her list.
Simms wanted to sit in the back of a police car wearing handcuffs, simply because she’d never done it before. The St Louis Metropolitan Police escorted the elderly woman to a senior center to deliver handmade gifts to the residents.
The presents were made by Simms, who had distributed over 400 items to the center over the last two years, but not in person. As a surprise, the Five Star Senior Center had arranged for a local police car to accompany Simms on the delivery. The bright soul hadn’t lost her sense of humor, despite her 102 years.
"A St. Louis County car pulled up next to the police and Edie holds up her hands with the handcuffs on. She's just a riot," explained Michael Howard, the executive director of the center.
Simms was truly delighted with her once in a lifetime experience and urged the policemen to do more community service, "because sometimes the person you reach out and touch, is the only person that they will talk to in a day."
