Who We Are

We invented the warmest thermal sock in 2008

Heat Holders started with a simple belief: feet should never be cold. In 2008, we invented The Warmest Thermal Sock using a proprietary three-stage manufacturing method that no one else has matched.

Customers told us the socks changed their lives. Then they asked for gloves. Then hats. Then base layers. We listened. Today, Heat Holders covers you from head to toe in warmth, softness, and comfort.

How We Test

We publish the numbers. Most brands don't.

Look at how most socks are sold. "Extra warm." "Thermal." These are descriptions, not measurements. You have no way of knowing whether one brand's "extra warm" is warmer than another's.

We do it differently. Heat Holders socks carry a TOG rating: a lab-tested number that tells you exactly how warm it is.

What TOG actually means

TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade. It measures how well a fabric holds heat, tested under a standardized laboratory method (BS 4745). The same measurement is used for duvets and insulated bedding. The higher the TOG, the warmer the fabric. It is repeatable, comparable, and you can look it up yourself.

ULTRA LITE™
1.0 TOG

We also test socks from other brands using the same method. We have not found one that tested warmer than our ORIGINAL at 2.3 TOG.

Why does this matter? When a sock brand publishes a TOG rating, you can compare it against any other tested product. When they don't, you're taking their word for it. We would rather show you the number.

What's Inside

Three things that make a Heat Holders sock warm

TOG is the score. Here's what earns it.

1

The yarn

We use a specially developed heavy bulk yarn with high thermal qualities. Our ORIGINAL sock is 91% acrylic, 5% nylon, 3% polyester, 1% elastane. Acrylic insulates without holding moisture the way cotton does.

2

The loops

Our knitting technology creates extra-long loops inside the sock. These loops trap pockets of warm air close to your skin. Longer loops, more trapped air, higher TOG. The ORIGINAL has the longest loops we make.

3

The brushing

After knitting, we intensively brush the inside of every sock. This creates the soft interior and maximizes the warm air held close to your skin.

Non-binding fit: Heat Holders socks use a non-binding cuff. It does not squeeze. If you have circulation concerns, swelling, or you just find tight socks uncomfortable, you will notice the difference. A sock that leaves marks on your legs by the end of the day is working against you, not for you.

One more thing worth knowing: cotton holds moisture. When your feet sweat (and they do, even at rest), a cotton sock gets damp, and damp fabric pulls heat away from your skin. Our yarn does not hold moisture the way cotton does. Combined with the air pockets and brushed interior, the result is a sock that keeps warmth in and moisture out.

Independently Tested

Raynaud's Association member-tested

Heat Holders socks are tested and endorsed by Raynauds.org. Their members tested our socks and reported their experience independently. We did not write the results.

The majority reported better cold tolerance, less pain in their feet and toes, reduced severity of attacks, and lower attack frequency.

The Association was honest about the limitations, too: they cannot guarantee every person will have the same experience. But the majority of their testers recommended fellow members give them a try.

This matters because it is not us saying it. These testers had no commercial relationship with us. They received socks, wore them, and said what happened.

Relevant even if you don't have Raynaud's

Raynaud's is an extreme version of what many people experience: cold triggers reduced blood flow, and your feet go numb. If a sock works well for people with significantly impaired circulation, that tells you something about how much warmth it actually delivers.

134 reviews describe being skeptical at first. We understand. A sock that claims to be 7× warmer than cotton sounds like marketing until you put one on.

"I am so happy with these socks. I googled warmest socks and found Heat Holders online. I was a bit skeptical as I'd never heard of this company before, but I was desperate as I am suffering from chilblains on my toes from excessive cold. These have really made a difference."

Honest Answers

The questions everyone asks

We would rather answer these directly than pretend they don't exist.

"They look thick. Will they fit in my shoes?"

Our ORIGINAL sock is thick. That is where the warmth comes from: the long-loop pile that delivers 2.3 TOG needs space. If you try to fit an ORIGINAL into a tight shoe, it will not work. We know that.

That is why we make three warmth levels, not one.

ORIGINAL™ (2.3 TOG, 7× warmer): Maximum warmth. Best around the house, inside boots with room, or as sleep socks.

LITE™ (1.6 TOG, 5× warmer): Fits in casual shoes and most boots. You trade some warmth for wearability. Still 5× warmer than cotton.

ULTRA LITE™ (1.0 TOG, 3× warmer): Fits like a regular sock. Designed for work shoes and dress shoes. 3× warmer than cotton in a profile you would never notice.

"Love the different warmth options. These socks are cozy and warm enough for winters in Colorado and Norway."Karen R. · Women's Spots Pattern ULTRA LITE Socks
"Excellent for every day (ultra lite) and as house socks (lite) at home. Always worth the money."Elizabeth D. · Women's Holly ULTRA LITE Solid Crew Socks

"How long do they last?"

Fewer than 30 out of 19,000+ reviews mention durability issues. That is less than 0.2%.

On the other side, over 600 reviews mention buying more pairs or repurchasing over multiple years. Over 160 reviews specifically say things like "lasted years" and "held up well."

"I have been ordering these high quality socks for years and they have lasted a long time. Soft, comfortable, warm and thin makes everyday wearing a pleasure."Patricia R. · Women's ULTRA LITE Twist Socks
"My last pairs lasted years. Love them."Lynda M. · Women's Camellia ORIGINAL Crew Socks

Care makes a difference. We recommend machine washing in warm water (40°C / 104°F) and drying flat. Tumble drying breaks down the thermal pile over time. Keep toenails trimmed, same as with any sock.

"Why do they cost more than regular socks?"

They are not regular socks. A cotton multipack gives you about 0.3 TOG. An ORIGINAL Heat Holders sock gives you 2.3 TOG. Stacking multiple cotton socks to try to match that restricts circulation, which makes cold feet worse.

213 customers have written "worth it," "worth the price," or "worth every penny" in their reviews. 627 have come back and bought more. The repeat purchase rate tells you more about value than the price tag.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

They cost more than cotton socks, but the comparison is 0.3 TOG to 2.3 TOG. Our ORIGINAL sock delivers 7 times the warmth of cotton, lab-tested under the BS 4745 standard. Over 200 customer reviews say "worth it" or "worth every penny," and 627 customers came back and bought more. If you have cold feet, the cost per season of warm feet is low.
TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade. It is a laboratory test (BS 4745) that measures how well a fabric retains heat. Higher number, warmer fabric. Our ORIGINAL socks rate 2.3 TOG, LITE socks rate 1.6 TOG, and ULTRA LITE socks rate 1.0 TOG. A regular cotton sock rates approximately 0.3 TOG.
The ORIGINAL is thick by design, and it may not fit in snug shoes. That is why we make three warmth levels. LITE (1.6 TOG) fits comfortably in casual shoes and boots. ULTRA LITE (1.0 TOG) is designed for tighter-fitting shoes, including work shoes and dress shoes. It fits like a regular sock but delivers 3 times the warmth of cotton.
With proper care, they last through multiple seasons. Over 160 customer reviews mention long-term durability positively. We recommend machine washing in warm water and drying flat. Avoiding tumble drying preserves the thermal pile that provides the insulation.
Our socks are trusted by people managing Raynaud's. Heat Holders socks are tested and endorsed by Raynauds.org, and the majority of testers reported better cold tolerance and reduced severity of attacks. Over 260 customer reviews mention Raynaud's specifically. The thermal performance is meaningful for people whose cold sensitivity goes beyond ordinary discomfort.
Yes. Machine wash in warm water (40°C / 104°F). Dry flat or line dry. Do not tumble dry, bleach, or dry clean. Do not wash inside out. Following the care instructions preserves the brushed thermal interior that provides the insulation.
It varies by warmth level. ORIGINAL socks are 91% acrylic, 5% nylon, 3% polyester, 1% elastane. LITE socks are 93% acrylic, 6% polyester, 1% elastane. ULTRA LITE socks are 89% acrylic, 10% nylon, 1% elastane. The acrylic base provides thermal insulation, nylon adds durability, and elastane provides stretch.
Different approaches to the same problem. Wool (especially merino) is a natural insulator with good moisture management. We use an engineered acrylic yarn with a long-loop brushed pile designed to maximize trapped air. We publish a lab-tested TOG rating (2.3 for our ORIGINAL). Most wool sock brands do not publish a comparable thermal metric, which makes a direct, standardized comparison difficult. Our socks are also animal-free, which matters to some buyers.
