The Warmest Socks in the World, and How to Choose
Your feet may be cold because your socks aren't doing their job. Heat Holders® are lab-tested to 2.30 TOG. 7x warmer than cotton. Three warmth levels. One fits your situation.
(lab-tested)
If you're here, you've probably tried everything. Thick socks. Doubling up. The expensive wool pair someone recommended. And your feet are still cold.
There's a reason for that, and once you understand it, choosing the right sock gets a lot simpler.
Heat Holders ORIGINAL™ socks are lab-tested to 2.30 TOG. That's 7x warmer than cotton, and the warmest thermal sock we've ever tested against.
Why your old socks were making your feet colder
Did you know your feet have roughly 250,000 sweat glands, more per square inch than any other part of your body? Between them they produce up to half a pint of moisture per day, even when you're sitting still. What happens to that moisture is the difference between warm feet and cold ones.
Cotton is the problem
Cotton absorbs moisture and holds it against your skin. It has no mechanism for releasing it. Once your cotton sock is damp (and it will be, even at rest) the wet fabric conducts heat away from your foot far faster than dry fabric does.
A cotton sock doesn't just fail to warm your foot. It actively cools it. And this isn't something that only affects hikers. It's the reason your feet are cold on the couch, at your desk, and in bed.
Thick doesn't mean warm
This is one of the most common misconceptions about socks. A thick cotton sock is just a thicker sponge.
What actually makes a sock warm is moisture management (the fiber moves sweat away from your skin instead of holding it) and loft (brushed fibers trap pockets of warm air close to your skin, the same principle as a down jacket). A high-loft sock can be thinner than a bulky cotton sock and significantly warmer.
The fiber question
You'll see a lot of claims about which fiber is the warmest, and fiber does matter. Natural fibers with hollow cores create air pockets. Synthetic blends can be engineered for specific warmth-to-thickness ratios.
But fiber alone doesn't tell you how warm a finished sock actually is. Construction, brushing technique, and how the yarn is knitted all matter. The only way to know is to test the finished product. That's exactly what TOG does.

Warmth you can measure
Heat Holders' thermal rating is lab-tested, not a marketing claim. TOG measures how well a fabric retains heat under controlled conditions. ORIGINAL™: 2.30 TOG, 7x warmer than cotton.
Thermal yarn blend brushed into a long-loop pile that traps warm air close to your skin. Manages moisture too. Warmth without dampness.
Heat Holders® socks are non-binding. No tight cuffs. No elastic marks. For people whose cold feet are related to circulation, this isn't just comfort. It's function.
"These socks are absolutely the warmest, most comfortable socks I've ever worn. I've tried other brands of 'warm' socks but none compare to the warmth & quality of heat holders."Karen T., Women's Primrose ORIGINAL™ Twist Crew Sock
"I googled warmest socks and found Heat Holders online. I was a bit skeptical as I'd never heard of this company before, but I was desperate as I am suffering from chilblains on my toes from excessive cold. These have really made a difference."Riki A., Women's ORIGINAL™ Chloe Stripe Crew Sock
"These socks were purchased as a gift for my mother-in-law. She has very limited mobility and her feet get cold easily. When she wears these socks her feet stay warm the entire day."Traci J., Women's Wendy ORIGINAL™ Four-Color Twist Crew Socks
Buying as a gift?
Buying for someone who complains about cold feet every winter? Start with ORIGINAL™. It's the product that gets requested back by name. You don't need to know their shoe habits. ORIGINAL™ works at home, and home is where most of our socks are worn. If you want to cover the shoe situation too, a LITE™ pair makes a great second gift.
Length, style, and fit
Once you've picked your warmth tier, there are just three more decisions to make.
Length
Crew (mid-calf) is the standard and most popular. Long (over the calf) gives full coverage for tall boots and is preferred by many people with circulation conditions. Ankle is the lower-profile option for low-cut shoes.
Style and pattern
Solids, stripes, twist knits, fairisle patterns, and seasonal designs. If you're buying as a gift, pattern is part of the appeal. It's a sock that looks chosen, not purely functional.
Fit and sizing
Heat Holders® socks are non-binding, designed without tight elastic cuffs. This matters for comfort over long wear, and especially for anyone managing Raynaud's, diabetes, or circulation conditions.
